Yashena Naidoo attends SPIE Sensors + Imaging Conference
The 2023 SPIE Sensors + Imaging Conference was hosted in Amsterdam from 3 – 6 September 2023. SPIE is an international society for optics and photonics, one of the primary areas covered by this organisation is remote sensing applications and research. This conference is a platform to showcase the latest remote sensing technologies, methods and research that is being produced internationally. The conference was an exciting opportunity to interact with other researchers in this space and engage on topics related to remote sensing methods and tools.
Yashena Naidoo represented the GCRO in the session “Remote Sensing Technologies and Applications in Urban Environments”. She presented findings on the use of nighttime lights imagery to predict economic activity in the City of Johannesburg. Her presentation was titled “Estimating change in the spatial economy of the City of Johannesburg using nighttime lights imagery”.
