The AfriSam-SAIA Award for Sustainable Architecture + Innovation recognises contributions that bring sustainable innovation to living environments through an integrated approach to communities, planning, design, architecture, building practice, natural systems and technology. The competition is run every two years and is dedicated to acknowledging best practice, innovation and sustainability in architecture and the built environment. It aims to promote and increase cross-disciplinary learning and understanding in the fields of sustainability and sustainable architectural practice. The award adjudication considers five criteria including: harmonisation, people upliftment, evolutionary paradigm, placemaking performance, and leadership.
