The Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) continued its active engagement in Quality of Life research by contributing to the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS) 2025 Virtual Winter Conference, held on February 27-28, 2025. This two day event focused on “Advancing Well-Being and Quality of Life Studies”.

GCRO’s participation featured two presentations:

  • Christian Hamann presented on “The partial post-COVID socio-economic recovery in Gauteng, South Africa.” This paper explored the partiality of the post-COVID socio-economic recovery in Gauteng to look for the areas where interventions are needed to accelerate further recovery.
  • Shamsunisaa Miles-Timotheus delivered a presentation titled “Risk of depression and social participation in 2023/24: Uncovering the connections shaping community well-being.” This study explored the relationship between social participation and the risk of depression in Gauteng.

The ISQOLS 2025 Virtual Winter Conference offered a platform for early-career researchers to present their work, gain feedback, and connect with scholars worldwide. GCRO’s involvement in this forum reinforced its commitment to advancing Quality of Life studies by using data driven research to inform policy in the Gauteng City-Region.
