GCRO participates in Gauteng Provincial Government ‘War Rooms’
The GCRO is participating in the Gauteng Provincial Government 'War Rooms', particularly the War Room on Poverty and Food Security and the War Room on Jobs and the Economy. The purpose of the Poverty and Food Security War Room is to develop a comprehensive strategy that tackles poverty and food security in the Gauteng City-Region towards the end of 2024 (the term of the current provincial administration). The GCRO, represented by Dr Darlington Mushongera and Mr Christian Hamann, has participated in meetings of the War Room since April 2022. To date, the GCRO has provided a summary of the poverty related research that we conducted in the past to inform the anti-poverty strategies drafted by the government.
The Jobs and the Economy War Room is led by the Gauteng Department for Economic Development and its Agencies, in collaboration with its Sister Departments and other key stakeholders. Its purpose is to drive and accelerate job creation and boost economic growth in the context economic challenges confronting the province. The envisaged outcomes of the War Room are to coordinate efforts towards implementing GGT2030 and accelerate programmes to address economic challenges resulting in high levels of unemployment and inequalities. The GCRO, represented by Mr Rashid Seedat and Dr Mamokete Modiba, has participated in the meetings of the War Room since March 2022. The role of the GCRO in both War Rooms is to provide research guidance, data, and review the plans of the War Rooms.
