GCRO Launches Call for Written Pieces Competition on Coloured Community in Post-Apartheid Gauteng
The Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) has launched a call for written pieces competition under the project: “Unseen and Understudied: The Coloured Community in Post-Apartheid Gauteng.”
This initiative forms part of a larger research project which aims to explore multiple themes within the Coloured community of Gauteng, a group that continues to face barriers to full social and economic inclusion.
Who Can Enter
The competition is open to anyone currently or previously living in Gauteng. Entrants under 18 years of age must have parental or guardian consent. Submissions must be original and unpublished.
How to Enter
Participants can submit up to three pieces (maximum 800 words each) in the form of essays, poems, personal reflections or short stories. Writers are encouraged to reflect on one or more of the following themes: identity, history, political attitudes, race, location, economic and social issues, subjective well-being, language and/or religion.
Submit online via the competition form or deliver to GCRO offices, 6th Floor, Wits Art Museum building, 11 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, 2001, Johannesburg, Gauteng.

● 1st Prize: R2000
● 2nd Prize: R1500
● 3rd Prize: R1000
In addition, selected entries will be featured in an online publication. Each entrant whose piece or extract is selected for publication will receive a R500 store voucher.
