On Tuesday, April 30, the GCRO hosted 107 grade 11 students from Elethu Themba Public School for an educational exploration of GIS techniques. The students were accompanied by their educators, Ms. Nonhlanhla Maduna, who teaches Geography, Social Sciences, and Life Orientation, and Mr. Karabo Mokhothu, who teaches Social Sciences and Natural Sciences.

The students were divided into four groups, each led by GCRO's Senior Researcher, Dr. Laven Naidoo. Dr. Naidoo started each session with an introduction to the GCRO, shedding light on the organization's mission and the work undertaken. As the students learned more about GIS techniques, Dr. Naidoo shared valuable information about the many jobs available in the GIS field, sparking curiosity among the students.

The students were excited during the visit, as shown by the interesting questions they asked, demonstrating their strong interest in GIS and how it is used in the real world. Dr. Naidoo also provided the students with an assignment to be completed after the sessions. This assignment was designed to reinforce the concepts discussed during the session and to further enhance the students' understanding of GIS techniques.

The students' eagerness to learn and engage with the subject was truly inspiring. Their curiosity and enthusiasm reaffirm the importance of educational initiatives. The visit not only gave the students a glimpse into the dynamic world of GIS but also helped nurture their aspirations and pave the way for future endeavors in the field.
