2015 Quality of Life Survey now in field
Every two years since 2009, the Gauteng City-Region Observatory carries out a ‘Quality of Life’ survey which measures the quality of life, socio-economic circumstances, attitudes to service delivery, psycho-social attitudes, value-base and other characteristics of the GCR. The results of the fourth survey to be completed in 2015 will be presented to government, citizens groups, in the media and elsewhere, and assist with establishing a better sense of what’s going right and what’s going wrong, and thus where government needs to focus its attention.
Following a competitive tender process, GCRO commissioned Ask Afrika to undertake the fieldwork and they are visiting communities across Gauteng to interview randomly selected respondents during the period July to October 2015.
This survey builds on the success of the first three surveys, and is expected to reach a sample of 30 000 respondents. The three metros – Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Tshwane – and the Gauteng Department of Health have contributed funds which allow us both to realise a ward-representative sample and to facilitate a robust working partnership across the various spheres of government in the GCR. The questionnaire has been refined and, with the input from a range of stakeholders, tries to get to the heart of some of the key challenges facing the GCR. The survey aims to equip all spheres of government with critical, local-level data needed to ensure the effectiveness of their programmes. Furthermore, the large sample should increase GCRO’s ability to analyse, map and model the data through the enhanced capabilities and methods.
We hope to have the data and top line analysis completed early in 2016. Keep an eye on the website project page for updates.
If you have any queries whatsoever about the survey, please feel free to contact GCRO or view the previous Quality of Life survey results and Quality of Life project descriptions.
