Climate health convening in Bellagio
The Rockefeller Foundation hosted a meeting in Bellagio, Italy from 9-13 April 2024. Rashid Seedat, the GCRO’s Executive Director, attended the meeting. The purpose was to bring together climate services experts, health observatories, and urban resilience teams for collaboration.

In preparation for the release of the Quality of Life Survey 7 (2023/24) results, the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) organized comprehensive training sessions to familiarize government officials with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software for analyzing the GCRO Quality of Life (QoL) Survey data.

From 15-18 April 2024, participants of a British Academy-funded writing support programme met in in the cradle of humankind region of Gauteng for the main event of the two year programme. The overall purpose of the programme is to support early career researchers to submit an article to a high impact journal. The theme of the programme is ‘Governing for Urban Inclusion’ and is jointly hosted by the Gauteng City-Region Observatory and the department of Geography, Cambridge University.

GCRO researchers Thembani Mkhize and Yashena Naidoo attended the Witwatersrand-Edinburgh Sustainable African Futures (WESAF) Doctoral Programme’s Sustainability School from April 28th to May 10th, 2024. The program, a collaboration between the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (Wits) and the University of Edinburgh (UoE), aims to provide research training for academics to complete interdisciplinary doctoral research on sustainability in Africa.
