GCRO is proud to be participating in the Metropolis Annual Meeting taking place in Gauteng from 26-29 August 2018. In 2017, Gauteng Premier David Makhura was elected co-president of Metropolis, an association of governments of major cities and metropolitan areas around the world and in 2018 won the bid to host the meeting. The theme of the conference is Inclusive metropolitan cities and city-regions.

The GCRO will be showcasing our research and institutional model in a number of ways. Alongside the conference, taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre, GCRO is exhibiting recent research outputs as part of an innovative and interactive stand. The exhibition features a video, a digital interactive visualisation on a touch screen, and enormous projected maps. The exhibition is open to the public and we hope to see you there. As part of the conference proceedings, GCRO will be engaged with other urban observatories discussing our approaches to collaborative research and partnerships. The exhibition and conference are another opportunity to engage an international audience on the important work of the GCRO. More information is available on the Metropolis event website.
